? Signed letter, dated 1927, written to Dr. Sokolow,
then serving as secretary general of the World Zionist
Congress.
The letter reads, “Dear Dr. Sokolow, please convey
to the Zionist Organisation my warm thanks for their
kind congratulations. Yours sincerely, A. Balfour.”
Tear down middle of paper, professionally restored
with no loss of text.
? Signed letter, dated 1929, written to Sir Herbert
Samuel, regarding a proposed appeal of funds to extend
the activities of the Anglo-Palestine Club.
With lengthy acclaim of the club’s activities
“promoting mutual understanding between the
inhabitants of the two countries”.
Excellent condition.
? Signed, printed New Year’s card.
Undated. Fine condition.
? Arthur James Balfour, (1848–1930) was a British
Conservative politician who served as Prime
Minister from July 1902 to December 1905. In
1916 he became Foreign Secretary and during his
tenure the famous Balfour declaration was issued,
viewing with favor the establishment in Palestine of
a national home for the Jewish people.
Lot includes two vintage color picture postcards of
Balfour’s visit to Palestine.
